Charles was born 1/21/1861, the son of Martha (Barton/Arnold) and David C. Davis who died in the Civil War and is buried in Hurricane Cemetery, Charleston, Coles Co., Illinois. Widowed Martha married John Weaver in Illinois in 1865 and they moved to Iowa by 1870. Charles had one sister, Jennie, who was born in Illinois on Feb.7, 1865.
Charles' wife, Susan (also a Davis) was born in Lackawanna Co., Ohio on March 15, 1861. I believe her parents were Edward and Catherine Davis who were both born in Wales.

David was born around 1837 in Ohio. I believe him to be the son of Samuel and Rachel (Colvert) Davis. David died from illness incurred while fighting in the Civil War. He died August 15, 1864 and is buried in Hurricane Cemetery, Charleston, Coles Co., Illinois. He left his widow and 2 children - Charles, who was born March 23, 1861, and Jennie, who was born 6 months after her father's death, February 7, 1865. Martha remarried and the family moved to Iowa by 1870.
