Jacques was referred to as "negre" and Marie as "femme de coleur" We know that they were in St. Andre D'Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada by 1804 as they were granted land. Earliest records of one of their children's birth was of Jean Baptiste, April 28. 1804. We are trying to find out where Jacques and Marie came from? Who were their parents? The bride and groom were my maternal great-grandparents. It states on their marriage certificate that they were married in Sudbury, NY. I have never been able to find a town called Sudbury in New York State and it may have been a hurried mistake on the recording person's part. It could have been Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, or even CT or MA. The witnesses were a Miss Hallie Estey and S. J. Estey (this may have been Sarah Jane Estey) and it is possible that they were relatives of the Williams family, about whom I know practically nothing.

Thomas draper was my great grandfather.Elizabeth was of pennsylvania dutch background.She was born in 1846.She gave birth to a daughter Maryann in Wisconsin in 1863,daughter Rhoda Elizabeth in 1865.The girls were baptized in the Wesleyan Methodist church in Oneida in Haldimand county,Ontario,Canada in 1866.This is where the family settled for good.My father believes Elizabeth,his grandmother died between 1920-25.Family lore says they married in Pennsylvania,but so far I haven't been able to locate any recordin Pennsylvania or Wisconsin.
